It was pathetic to hear aunties on air, happily claiming that today is ur Independence day!!!!!
It pathetic with a capital "P".

hi, ,this is Ajitkaka.Do you know the reason why 26th Jan. is republic day?It was in Lahore Gongress session in 1928 the deamand for total independance rather than self rule or dominion status was raised openly.26th jan 1929 was declared and celebrated as independence day and Cogress always celebrated 26th Jan thereafter as independence day.However the British chose to to give independece to us in Aug.1947 therefore we celebrate 15th Aug.as independence day.we were independent as a dominion of the British Empire till 1950.once the constitution was formally adopted and th republic was to be declared severing our last formal link with Great Britain 26th Jan.1950 was chosen as the republic day.
